Self-Guided Tour

The museum primarily offers self-guided tours with our knowledgeable, friendly staff available to answer questions. The experience offers flexible scheduling and is perfect for those who like exploring at their own pace. The self-guided tour is available during our hours of operation Monday-Saturday with last entry at 3:00 p.m. and limited to 15 guests every half hour. After your visit, enjoy our museum store, small garden, and complimentary downtown self-guided walking tour.

Guided Tour

A guided tour is available at 3:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. The experience is led by the same knowledgeable, friendly staff as the self-guided tour. The experience is perfect for those who enjoy lectures and being in groups with others. The tour lasts one hour and is limited to 15 guests per tour. The guided tour often sells out so pre-booking is encouraged. After your visit, enjoy our museum store, small garden, and complimentary downtown self-guided walking tour.

Museum Store

The museum store is open to all during our hours of operation. This includes visitors who choose not to tour the museum. While modest in size, the museum store offers a variety of books about Mrs. Lincoln and Kentucky history, Lincoln related items, and souvenirs.

Location

We are located within easy walking distance of downtown hotels, restaurants, and shopping. Check out our Neighborhood Guide to help you plan! For even more ideas, check out the Lexington Travel Inspiration Guides. Our physical address is 578 W. Main Street, Lexington.

Parking

Free parking is located directly behind the house. It is accessible via Tucker Street (looks like an alleyway). Our neighbors at Main Street Baptist Church also kindly allow us to use their adjacent lot from 9:45 am-4:30 pm, so long as they do not have a funeral or event. Metered parking is also available on Main Street.

Photography & Videography

Photography without a flash is welcome. Video and audio recordings are not permitted.

Accessibility

The Mary Todd Lincoln House is partially wheelchair accessible. The first floor of the museum can be reached via a wheelchair lift and is wheelchair navigable. Please ask staff for assistance by calling 859-233-9999 as the lift requires a key to operate. The second floor is not wheelchair accessible. There are twenty-one steps to the second floor. A photo album of the upstairs is available for visitors who are unable to or choose not to tour the upstairs.

A large-print document of all exhibit labels is available at the admissions area for any visitor who wishes to use it. Unfortunately, audio recordings are not yet available.

In compliance with the ADA, service animals on harness or leash are permitted inside the museum. The ADA defines service animals as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities.

Museums for All

The museum offers free admission to individuals and families who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Please enter the promo code “Museums4All” when booking your tour online. For questions or to book by phone, call or 859-233-9999 or email director@mtlhouse.org.
